After years of research in New York, and completing a PhD at the University of Amsterdam for the thesis 'Gap Junctions in the Cardiovascular System in 2001, Monique Koopmans started her training to become a clinical pathologist at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. After working as a pathologist in Noord-Holland, she made the switch to Pathology-DNA in the middle of 2013 to further her expertise in her focus areas in the setting of an STZ hospital. Monique is a board member of the Netherlands Society for Pathology (NVVP).
